About Jonathan

My name's Jonathan Banks and I'm your Parliamentary Candidate for the Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner constituency

Originally from Greenford, I have lived in the Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner constituency for several years. I have 2 children, Adam and Naomi, and live in Harefield with my partner Mary, step-daughter Eleanor, and rescue dog – Barney. I’m proud of my contributions (now diminishing!) to my 5-A-Side team at Goals League in South Ruislip.

My background is in sales and marketing for the grocery industry and until 2010 I was the European Business Insight Director for the world’s largest market research company - Nielsen.

Whilst at Nielsen, I worked with Oxford University’s Environmental Change Institute to enhance understanding of consumer behaviour and attitudes towards climate change.

In 2010 I formed Jonathan Banks Associates Ltd and worked closely with, amongst others, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation. I have spent much of 2019 working on sustainability issues in the seafood industry, via the World Economic Forum.

I abhor the recent ascendancy of lie-fuelled emotion and beliefs over facts. The division in this country and lack of trust in our political system means we need a different breed of politician.

Whilst the EU is imperfect, we’re better in than out. I dislike protectionism and subsidies, and believe tax-payers and multinational businesses must be prepared to pay their fair share, especially for health and education.

The NHS faces a funding crisis and increasing demand - I will focus on improving links between health and social care, enhancing mental health care, and provision for the elderly.

I’m against the 3rd runway, but note that the plan to extend the existing runways had some advantages. I believe increasing rail infrastructure is a necessity, and whilst the cost/benefit analysis for HS2 to Birmingham is flawed, I’m more supportive of its extensions to the North.

I congratulate my LibDem colleague Lagle Heinla on her success in helping halt redevelopment of Northwood Station, but remain concerned about the flooding in North Ruislip from the woods.

I’m committed to helping constituents irrespective of party allegiance and will run a minimum of 30 drop-in sessions each year across the constituency in Harefield, Ickenham, Ruislip, Eastcote, Northwood, Pinner, and Hatch End.

I love getting out in our constituency and listening to what’s concerning local people, and when appropriate, explaining what we stand for. Don’t wait for me to come to you!
